COMPTON, Los Angeles County — Families in Compton have new park facilities following the city’s renovation of Dr. Walter Tucker, Sr. Park. City officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 13, 2026, to mark the improvements.
According to the Recreation Department, the updated park includes a new playground and a 40-foot-by-40-foot picnic shelter. The city describes the playground as its tallest and says the picnic area contains tables. Barbecue pits were expected to be added later, but the May announcement did not confirm their completion.
Public investment
Compton says the improvements represent its sixth completed park renovation under an ongoing effort to improve public recreational spaces. The park project received Measure A grant funding through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District.
Planning a visit
Families should verify current opening hours and any recreation programming with the city before planning a group activity. For residents, the project is also an example of how county-level open-space funding can support improvements in an individual neighborhood.
